Education For Change

Closing the Teach For America Blogging Gap
Feb 26 2011

Here we go!

It’s all really happening!

I was accepted into Teach For America in January and attended the Summit a few weeks ago, but it wasn’t until last night that it really hit me.

Last night I had my first phone interview with Cornerstone Academy Preparatory School in San Jose. After a pretty exciting 45 minute conversation about start up charter schools and classroom management, the principal told me she would be in contact with me about next steps. I got off the phone wondering when I would hear from her again, and then received another call from her less than a minute later. She wanted to offer me a position at her school! I was shocked and overwhelmed and full of so much excitement.

Suddenly my teaching position next year is no longer hypothetical or up in the air. Next year I am going to be a lower elementary school teacher, working at a new charter school full of so much energy and momentum. I will be joining a small but extremely motivated team. I think the fit is going to be perfect for me! And so my TFA adventure begins…
